Kiedy Anna McCallum, doktorantka Uniwersytetu w Melbourne, odkryła nowy gatunek krewetek żyjących u brzegów Australii, postanowiła sprzedać prawa do jego nazwy na popularnym portalu aukcyjnym eBay. Uzyskana w ten sposób kwota ma zostać przekazana na ochronę mórz.
Zwycięzcą aukcji został Luc Longley, były koszykarz Chicago Bulls, który podarował tak nietypowy prezent urodzinowy swojej córce Clare Hanna Longley, która w sierpniu skończyła 15 lat. Prawa do nazwania nowego gatunku skorupiaków zostały sprzedane za prawie 3000 dolarów amerykańskich. Za taką kwotę córka koszykarza otrzymała prawo do nazwania krewetki swoim imieniem - clarehanna Lebbeus.
Nie jest to pierwsza inicjatywa znanego koszykarza na rzecz ochrony morskiej przyrody. Wcześniej Luc Longley uczestniczył w akcji, której celem było wstrzymanie inwestycji budowlanej w pobliżu rafy Ningaloo, gdzie znajduje się bogaty ekosystem morski.
Wykupienie naming rights do nazwy nowego gatunku krewetki było więc nie tylko oryginalnym prezentem urodzinowym, ale też kolejnym aktem przeciw niszczeniu morskiej przyrody. Przypadek ten obrazuje również, jak można połączyć tak wydawałoby się różne obszary, jak odkrycie w dziedzinie biologii z ciekawą akcją społeczną. Pokazuje również, że naming rights to narzędzie bardzo elastyczne, przynoszące finansowe i społeczne zyski nie tylko w przypadku dużych obiektów sportowych, ale też niestandardowych akcji tego typu.
